What is love? Where does it come from? How do we get more of it?
Research on brain chemistry reveals connections between hormones and three categories of love: feelings of lust, attraction, and attachment. The benefits of these feel-good hormones extend beyond the emotional barometer and into physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. There are ways to increase the production of these feel good hormones: intimacy, movement, and meditation. Are you opening your heart chakra to the things that bring all of these benefits of love into your life? Start attracting and allowing love into your life by understanding the science behind the spiritual practice.
What is the Science Behind Love?
Researched brain chemistry reveals hormonal releases for the love categories of lust, attraction, and attachment. Lust releases testosterone and estrogen. Attraction involves norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine (the ‘reward’ hormone). Attachment is connected to oxytocin (snuggles) and vasopressin.
You can increase hugs or massages to release more oxytocin, exercise more or meditate to increase serotonin, and enjoy some blue skies or get restful sleep for dopamine. These activities also help with mood, blood pressure, stress, and pain.
Why is this brain important to matters of the heart? As we open our hearts to what brings ‘love’, our brain releases those feel good hormones which also benefit our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Our bodies don’t know the difference as to whether these feel good hormones are coming from love or meditation but our minds get used to existing that space so we become more likely to attract more of the same into our lives.
What Brings Love Into Your Life
To bring love in your life, start at the beginning, with you and your energetic wellness.
An open heart chakra allows you to connect with the love within yourself, within your loved ones, and within the beautiful world around you. When you think about the intimacy needed for oxytocin, the activity or release for serotonin, or getting outdoors for dopamine, you can see how the open heart connects to the spirituality of that loving feeling.
An open heart chakra is what brings love into your life. A blocked heart chakra could create obstacles in your own journey to find true love.
Opening the heart chakra allows, energetically, direct and easy access to compassion and joy. There will be ease in moving through obstacles in relationships. Self-love and acceptance will radiate through you.
How do you know if your heart chakra is blocked?
Stagnant or blocked energy of the heart chakra could reveal itself in physical ailments of the heart, lungs, and chest as well as extending into the arms and hands. These could look like high/low blood pressure, respiratory infections, or circulatory problems.
You may notice feelings of jealousy, or distrust toward others. Just as an open heart chakra creates excitement over new experiences, a blocked heart chakra may prevent you from joining in or socializing. Isolation or fear of intimacy may result. As your connection with self, others, and the world around you decrease, so will those feel-good hormones.
How to Attract Love into Your Life
Cultivating the power of the heart will be key in attracting love in your life.
One way to do this is by opening your heart and attracting love through meditation (a serotonin booster), journaling, or ceremony.
If you’re new to attracting love, set an intention that expresses the change you wish to see. Try: I am open to receiving love. Or Love flows through me. Your intention can be used to ground your thoughts and actions with purpose. Using Spiritual Items to Attract Love to hold and anchor you can enhance your intention journey towards love.
We know that brain chemistry and matters of the heart are connected. But, it’s not a one-size-fits-all formula. Start your own journey to find more love in your life. Open your heart and attract the love that is waiting just for you.
